As the holidays approach, many people want a spotless oven and are tempted to run the self-clean cycle. At Jeffrey’s Appliance Service, we strongly recommend against it.
Self-clean cycles heat the oven to extremely high temperatures (often 800–900°F). While this burns off grease, it also puts serious stress on the electronic control board. High heat can damage or destroy the board, leaving your oven completely out of commission. During the busy holiday season, parts can be hard to get quickly, and we may not be able to complete the repair in time for your family gatherings.
Instead, clean the oven manually. Remove the racks and soak them in hot, soapy water. Make a baking soda and water paste, spread it inside the oven, and let it sit for several hours or overnight. Wipe it away with a damp cloth, then rinse with a clean cloth. For tougher jobs, ask our Parts Department about the oven cleaners we recommend.
A little extra effort now can save you from a broken oven right when you need it most.
